BNP-backed general secretary candidate Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal has been sent to jail after remand in a case filed in connection with the fight over the counting of votes in the Supreme Court Bar Association elections.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman gave this order after the hearing on Thursday afternoon.
After the four-day remand, Kajal was produced in the court and requested to be detained in jail, said the investigating officer of the case, DB Police Inspector Abul Kalam Azad. Later, the judge gave the order.
However, the lawyers did not apply for bail on behalf of Kajal.
Kajal's lawyer Omar Faruk Faruki confirmed the information.
On March 10, the court granted Kajal's four-day remand.
Earlier on the evening of March 9, a team of Criminal Investigative Department (CID) arrested BNP-backed general secretary candidate Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal in connection with a clash that took place over the announcement of results of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election a day before.
The CID arrested him from his chamber in Paltan of the capital on Saturday evening.
Later, he was handed over to Shahbagh police station and shown arrested in a case filed in connection with the clash.
