A court in Dhaka has given the police four days to question BNP Vice Chairman Shahjahan Omar in custody in a case filed over a bus being set ablaze in the New Market area of Dhaka.
Inspector Sairul Islam of the Detective Branch, the investigating officer of the case, presented the senior BNP leader before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam, requesting he be put on a seven-day remand, while Omar’s legal counsel sought bail.
After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court placed Omar on a four-day remand.
According to the case statement, a bus was set on fire at around 7:30pm on Saturday in front of Gauchia Market. Afterwards, the driver of the bus filed a case at New Market police station.
Barrister Shahjahan Omar was detained in Dhaka late on Saturday as a suspect in the case.
