The High Court has ordered the suspension of the notice issued by Jagannath University's (JnU) Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall, which said that residential seats would not be available for married students.
The High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kajib Zeenat Haque passed the order on Tuesday.
The court's decision followed a legal notice sent on September 27, urging the university to withdraw the instructions requiring married and pregnant students to vacate the hall.
Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Md Solaiman Tushar sent the notice, addressing it to the vice-chancellor, registrar, proctor, and provost of the university.
In the notice, Tushar highlighted recent media reports about a notice issued mentioning that female students of Jagannath University would be denied residential seats if they were married or pregnant.
The notice, based on Clause 17 of the "Residence and Living Conditions and Conduct and Discipline Rules 2021" at Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall, mandated that married and pregnant students must vacate their hall seats promptly, threatening necessary action if they failed to comply.
