A writ has been filed in the High Court seeking directions to stop collecting tax (money collected from the buyers by the market organizers) in sacrificial cattle markets throughout the year including the Eid-ul-Azha.
Advocate Yunus Ali Akand filed the writ in the concerned branch of the High Court on Wednesday.
The High Court bench of Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Justice Mohammad Shawkat Ali Chowdhury fixed next week to hear the writ petition.
In the writ petition, the secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, secretary of the Ministry of Religion have been made defendants.
According to the writ petition, the price of the animals have increased several times due to the collection of revenue in the sacrificial cattle market.
Apart from this, one of the reasons for the increase in the price of meat is tax. Animal markets should be managed under government management, the petition said.
The government has to bear all the expenses of the animal market. The price of animals will also decrease and people will be able to buy meat at a lower price, it added..
