The High Court has summoned the manager of National Bank's Gulshan Corporate Branch to explain the withdrawal of Tk22.6 crore after working hours.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat gave the suo motu rule on Monday after taking cognizance of a report published in a newspaper.
The court has asked the accused to appear in court on March 12 and explain the matter.
ACC counsel senior advocate Khurshid Alam Khan brought the news report to the attention of the court.
The article titled "Tk23 crore withdrawn from National Bank after 8pm" stated that banking transaction timings are from 10am to 3:30pm. However, National Bank's Gulshan Corporate Branch paid Tk22.6 crore in cash to Infratech Construction Company Limited on December 28, 2022 after 8 pm.
Sources said that in the 475th meeting of the National Bank Board on December 28, a proposal was made to renew the loan of Infratech Construction Company Limited. Many people objected to that proposal.
The governor of Bangladesh Bank, the managing director of National Bank and the related organizations have been asked to respond to the rule.
The court has also ordered Bangladesh Bank to submit an investigation report on the incident.
