A Chittagong court on Monday sent Chumki Karan, wife of ex-OC and death-row convict in Major (retd) Sinha murder case, Pradeep Kumar Das, to jail in a case over amassing wealth illegally.
Chittagong Divisional Special Judge Munshi Abdul Majid passed the order after Chumki surrendered before the court and sought bail, said Anti-Corruption Corporation’s (ACC) lawyer Mahmudul Haque.
Chumki Karan remained absconding since the arrest of Pradeep in the Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan murder case.
On August 23 in 2020, ACC filed a case against Pradeep and his wife over amassing wealth worth Tk4 crore.

ACC sources said the anti-graft watchdog’s investigation against Pradeep started in 2018.
On April 20 last year, Pradeep and his wife were asked to submit their wealth statement and they submitted their statements in June that year.
After a long investigation, the ACC found evidence that the couple acquired assets worth over Tk4 crore illegally.
ACC Chittagong Assistant Director Md Riaz Uddin submitted the chargesheet on July 26.
On September 1, the court accepted the chargesheet.
On December 15 last year, a Chittagong court indicted Pradeep and wife in the case.
On January 30 this year, Pradeep submitted a petition to the High Court seeking cancellation of the indictment order and judicial proceedings in this case.
The statement recording of this case is on-going.
