A Dhaka court on Sunday framed charges against sacked Dhaka South Awami Jubo League leader Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan in two cases, filed under the Narcotics Control Act and the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act.
Judge Md Robiul Alam of the Dhaka’s Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court framed the charges.
Afterwards, the court fixed June 1 for recording depositions of witnesses in the two cases.
Meanwhile, the accused claimed to be innocent of the charges brought against him and prayed for justice.

Earlier, on September 18, 2019, the Rapid Action Battalion arrested Khalid from his Gulshan residence for allegedly running an illegal casino in Dhaka’s Fakirapool area. The law enforcement agency also seized illegal weapons, yaba pills and a substantial amount of cash from his residence.
RAB officials filed three cases with Gulshan and Motijheel police stations the following day under the Narcotics Control Act, Arms Act and Money Laundering Prevention Act.
Jubo League later expelled Khalid for breaching party discipline.
