Upazila chairman sued for defaming MP Shaheen Chaklader

Md Anwar Hossain Bipul, Vice Chairman of Jessore Sadar upazila, has been sued on allegations of defaming Shaheen Chaklader, MP from Jessore 6 . 

Azharul Islam, convener of Keshabpur upazila Chhatra League, filed a Tk-50 crore defamation case with the court of Jessore Senior Judicial Magistrate Monjurul Islam on Monday, said Rafiqul Islam Pitu, lawyer for the plaintiff.

Taking the complaint into cognizance, the court summoned Md Anwar Hossain Bipul, a former general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League Jessore district unit, to appear before it on October 7.

In the complaint, Kazi Azharul Islam stated that in a planned way, Jessore Sadar upazila Vice-Chairman Md Anwar Hossain Bipul had called a press conference and accused MP Shaheen Chaklader of plotting to kill him. 

A report to this effect, headed “Shangshoder Biruddhe Hotta Porikolpanar Obhijog (Allegations of murder plot against MP)”, was published in Prothom Alo on September 7 which shocked and aggrieved the MP.

The plaintiff claimed that the information was false, fabricated and baseless and had defamed MP Shaheen Chaklader. He sought Tk 50 crore as compensation.

Contacted, Vice Chairman Md Anwar Hossain Bipul, who is currently staying in Dhaka, said: " I will fight a legal battle. And I will also file a case against the MP.” 

Besides, this correspondent called MP Shaheen Chaklader over phone for his comment about the matter, but he did not pick up.
