A legal notice has been served to Somoy TV and the senior secretary of the Election Commission, asking for the withdrawal of a report claiming Dr Mizanur Rhaman’s reference was used in an NID scam.
Dr Mizanur Rahman is a former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission.
On his behalf Supreme Court lawyers, Barrister Md Sazzad Hossain, Barrister Khan Mohammad Shamim Aziz, Barrister M Humaun Kabir Pallob, Advocate Bakir Uddin Bhyuian, and Advocate Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, sent the legal notice by email and post to EC Senior Secretary Md Alamgir, Technical Expert Md Sahabuddin, as well as the concerned news editor and reporter of Somoy TV, on Tuesday.
Besides seeking the withdrawal of the report, the notice demanded an unconditional apology in a press conference within 24 hours.
On September 3, Somoy TV broadcast a report claiming JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury attained a second NID card with a reference from Dr Mizanur Rahman, who allegedly also accompanied her to the Election Commission. Dr Mizanur Rahman sent a rejoinder protesting the news report.
