A Dhaka court has granted bail to 35 BNP leaders in two cases filed over allegations of blazing three bikes in front of the Supreme Court on December 11,2019.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes granted the bail on Sunday, after the leaders surrendered before the court and filed their bail petition.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and Chairperson Khaleda Zia's special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas were among the 35 BNP leaders to get bail.
On December 15 last year, the High Court granted eight weeks of interim bail to 23 of these BNP leaders.
On December 11, the cases were filed with Shahbag police against 135 BNP leaders and activists ,including Fakhrul, over the incident.
At that time, Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Hossain said they suspect that it was pre-planned.
“The people who did this are trying to create chaos,” he said.
Police did not arrest anyone over the incident, the OC said.
