Kalabagan club president again placed on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed Kalabagan Krira Chakra Club President Shafiqul Alam Feroz on a five-day fresh remand in a case lodged for possessing illegal arms.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atikul Islam issued the fresh remand order on Monday when Investigation Officer and Sub-Inspector (SI) Jasim Uddin of RAB-2 produced Feroz in court seeking a fresh15-day  remand in the case.

Earlier in the day, investigation officer (IO) of another narcotics case lodged against him said the accused gave important information in the initial five-day remand.

IO, Sub-Inspector Palash Hossain of the detective branch of police (DB), filed his report with the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court when he produced the accused in court after Feroz’s initial remand in the case had ended.

“He has given much significant information, which is being scrutinized for further investigation and interrogation in remand. Further steps will be taken in this regard after scrutinizing the information,” the IO said in his report.

The IO also opposed Feroz’s bail plea, saying he could go into hiding in that case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Mahmuda Akter on September 21 placed Feroz on a 10-day remand in toto, for two cases: one for possessing illegal arms, the other being a narcotics case.

He was initially remanded for five-days in the arms case and for five-days in the  narcotics case when Dhanmandi police produced him in court, seeking to put him on a 20-day remand for the two cases.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed the two cases against Feroz on September 21 with Dhanmondi police station.

The crime busting agency seized a new type of yaba tablets from Feroz. The yellow colored yaba RAB found with Feroz has practically no smell, making it a significant discovery for the agency.

A foreign made pistol and three bullets were also recovered from the club. Coins and scorecards usually used in a casino, were also recovered from the club with 572 packets of playing cards.
