Firoz was detained before RAB raided the Kalabagan Krira Chakra Club in search of a potential illegal casino

A Dhaka court has placed Kalabagan Krira Chakra Club President Shafiqul Alam Firoz on a 10-day remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmuda Akhtar passed the order after denying Firoz bail in the two cases under arms and narcotics acts filed by RAB with Dhanmondi police station, on Saturday.

On Friday, RAB apprehended Firoz, who is also a leader of Bangladesh Krishak League. They caught him around 1:30pm, before raiding the club in search of a potential illegal casino.

They also detained four other staff of the club in the drive.

The elite force laid siege to the club since afternoon, and started the drive sometime after 7pm on Friday that ended around 7:40pm.

During the raid, they recovered 500 packs of playing cards, one foreign pistol with three bullets, and a few yaba tablets.

The move comes in the wake of a massive clampdown on gamblers that started on Wednesday.
