The High Court has ordered the prison authorities to provide first-class division facilities to former caretaker government adviser barrister Mainul Hosein, who was arrested in a defamation case.
The bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil issued the order on Saturday.
Dr Kamal Hossain and Khandker Mahbub Hossain represented Mainul in the court while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state.

Mainul called journalist Masuda Bhatti “characterless” on an October 16 TV talk show. Female journalists asked the lawyer to apologize for his comment. Bhatti sued Mainul four days later as he did not apologize.
Mainul has since been named in at least six other cases in: Jamalpur, Kurigram, Brahmanbaria, Bhola, Comilla, and Rangpur.

He secured advance bail from the High Court in the three cases filed in Dhaka, Jamalpur, and Kurigram.
He was arrested on October 22 in the Rangpur case. The Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court rejected his bail petition and ordered he be kept in jail. Mainul has since been kept at the Central Jail.
