Bangladeshi technician jailed and banned for causing rider's death

The convict, installation technician Uddin Keyam, 36, who was driving a van, has also been banned from driving for five years due to negligence at the non-signalised junction, reports The Straits Times. The accident took place when Keyam blocked the motorcyclist’s way while another car was making a right turn which resulted into a crash between the bike and his van at Kaki Bukit Avenue 4 around 9am on August 27 last year. The motorcyclist, Wong Foo Wai, 57, succumbed from his extensive brain and spinal cord injuries three days later. Although Keyam slowed down along the rightmost lane intending to make a right turn, he did not completely stop. During the mitigation his lawyer Low Woon Ming said that his client could not see anything as two vehicles blocked his view. According to the Singapore’s Negligent Act, Keyam could have been jailed for up to two years as well as could be fined for causing a death.
