The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed three separate corruption cases against former social welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, his wife, and son over allegations of acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk8.5 crore and engaging in suspicious transactions totalling Tk134 crore.
ACC Director General (prevention) Md Akhtar Hossain confirmed the development at the commission’s headquarters on Monday.
In the first case, former minister Nuruzzaman has been accused of amassing illegal assets worth Tk5.31 crore and conducting suspicious transactions of Tk62.08 crore through 31 bank accounts under his name.
In the second case, his wife, Mosammat Hosne Ara Begum, has been accused of acquiring illicit assets worth Tk1.22 crore.
Additionally, she allegedly conducted suspicious transactions amounting to Tk50.43 crore through 25 bank accounts under her name.
The third case names his son, Rakibuzzaman Ahmed, alongside the former minister.
The commission report said that Rakibuzzaman acquired wealth amounting to Tk2.06 crore beyond his known sources of income through the misuse of his father’s influence.
He is also accused of engaging in suspicious and irregular transactions worth Tk22.43 crore through 10 bank accounts in his name.
