Benazir, four others sued in passport fraudulent case

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and four others for allegedly obtaining passports through fraudulent means.

The case was filed at the ACC's integrated district office in Dhaka.

ACC's Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam confirmed the matter.

The four other accused are former director of the Dhaka Division Passport Office Mohammad Fazlul Haque, former Director Munshi Muyeed Ikram, director Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, and Technical Manager of the e-passport and automated border control project, Sahena Haque.

According to Aktarul Islam, Benazir Ahmed, while serving as DIG of Police Headquarters, Additional IGP, Director General of RAB, and Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), resorted to fraud despite being a government employee.

He falsely declared his profession as a private service employee on multiple occasions and applied for Machine Readable Passports (MRP) and e-passports without departmental clearance (NOC).

The other accused, fully aware of Benazir Ahmed’s official identity, willingly engaged in criminal misconduct without verifying or obtaining the necessary departmental clearance.

They granted final approval for the issuance of a general passport and e-passport in Benazir Ahmed's name, committing offenses under sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 109 of the Penal Code, and section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, as well as section 11 of the Bangladesh Passport Order, 1973.

In July, the ACC had issued an asset declaration notice against former IGP Benazir Ahmed and his family.
