PSC question leak: Hotel owner denies ties to former PSC driver Abed Ali

Liberty Group Managing Director Mosharraf Hossain, owner of Hotel Sun Marina, has denied any ties to former Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) driver Syed Abed Ali, who claimed to have invested in the hotel.

Mosharraf said Abed Ali visited the site a few months ago, expressing interest in buying shares, but he never saw or knew him (Abed) personally.

The construction of "Hotel Sun Marina" in Kuakata has yet to begin, but it has already sparked controversy on social media due to posts by Abed Ali, who has been arrested for allegedly leaking questions for 30 recruitment exams, including the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exams.

Abed Ali, a former driver for the chairman of the BPSC, has been making headlines since Monday, following his social media posts about the hotel.

Abed Ali's social media post from May 18 has recently caught the attention of people in Kalapara, Kuakata, and the coastal areas.

In his post, Abed Ali claimed to have laid the foundation for a new hotel, inviting people to buy shares to own a part of the hotel on the seashore.

Despite the claims, the hotel remains undeveloped, with only a few tin-shed rooms and a signboard displaying a design for the future hotel.

The land for the hotel, located in Panjupara, Ward No 7 of Kuakata Municipality, was purchased by the original owner, Md Mosharraf Hossain, in 2010.

Mosharraf Hossain has described Abed Ali as a dubious character and plans to file a general diary (GD) at Gulshan Police Station in Dhaka.

Abed Ali hails from Dasar upazila in Madaripur district. He has been in the spotlight for his alleged involvement in leaking PSC exam questions.

Recently, he has been campaigning for the chairman position in Dasar upazila, using posters and banners.

Abed Ali has also been seen conducting election campaigns in a luxury car, accompanied by his son Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam, a local Chhatra League leader.

Local sources reveal that Abed Ali has amassed considerable wealth, allegedly through illegal means.

He has built a luxurious house and a mosque in his village and owns multiple properties, including flats in Dhaka and other areas.

He is also accused of illegally occupying government land to build a cattle farm.

Abed Ali and his family reportedly lead a lavish lifestyle, using several expensive cars and owning numerous valuable properties.

Siam posted a picture on May 19 showing his father praying at Kuakata Beach, claiming that his father was there for business purposes.

Kalapara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rabiul Islam said that Syed Abed Ali was identified as the owner of a residential hotel in Kuakata among those arrested.

However, he mentioned that he has not received any specific instructions from his superiors regarding this matter yet.

He assured that upon receiving instructions, appropriate actions would be taken according to the rules.

Notably, on Monday the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police arrested 17 individuals, including Syed Abed Ali, his son Siam and two deputy directors along with an assistant director of the Public Service Commission (PSC), for their involvement in leaking question papers for government recruitment examinations.
