The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has called for the arrest of Pradeep Kumar Das, the former Teknaf police station officer-in-charge accused in the Major (rtd) Sinha murder case.
The national anti-graft commission has also imposed a travel ban on Pradeep’s wife Chumki Karon, after finding evidence of wealth the couple have stored both domestically and abroad, an ACC official told Dhaka Tribune on Monday.
The ACC has already informed the immigration department of police and asked it to take effective measures so that Pradeep’s wife cannot flee.
On August 23, ACC Assistant Director Riaz Uddin filed a case against Pradeep and his wife on charges of amassing over Tk3 crore in illegal wealth.
On August 8, the commission launched a fresh inquiry against the couple. The ACC had also launched an investigation against Pradeep on allegations of amassing illegal wealth in 2018.

In the fresh inquiry, the commission asked the two to submit their wealth information, but the couple failed to cite any legal sources of their amassed wealth.
The anti-corruption watchdog has initiated the process of freezing the bank accounts of Pradeep as well as his wife.
During its investigation, the ACC has found that Pradeep not only has bank accounts in his name and those of his family members in Bangladesh, but also in Australia, Canada and India.
At around 10pm on July 31, Major (rtd) Sinha was killed at an Armed Police Battalion (APBn) checkpost in Teknaf’s Baharchhara union.
On August 5, a murder case was filed by Sinha’s sister Sharmin Shahriar Firdaus accusing nine people, including then Teknaf police station OC Pradeep, Baharchhara checkpost Inspector Liakat, Sub-Inspector Nanda Dulal Rakkhit, Tutul, ASI Liton Miah, Constable Safanur Karim, Kamal Hossain, Md Abdullah Al Mamun and Md Mostafa of the killing.
