The seven-month-old girl, who was found carrying an embryo in her stomach, has undergone an operation at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Wednesday morning.
A five-member medical board led by Professor Dr Ashraful Haque conducted a three-and-half-hour-long surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and removed the embryo.
The minor, Sajia Jannat, is now in good condition, said Dr Ifat Khan, deputy registrar of DMCH Paediatric Surgery unit.
The doctor said: “The authorities will brief the media and screen the video footage of the medical operation around 10am Thursday.”
Sajia's father Shafiqul, a cycle mechanic in Gazipur's Natunbazar, said they first noticed the matter when Sajia was only four months old. They noticed that her stomach seemed much bigger than it ought to have been.
They contacted doctors in Jamalpur who told them Sajia had a tumour in her stomach. Later, they took her to Mymensingh, and after several examinations, a doctor found that the girl was carrying an embryo in her stomach. They referred her to DMCH immediately, he added.
On March 13, they admitted the child at the Paediatric Surgery department of DMCH under Professor Dr Ashraful Haque Kazal.
According to Shafiqul, the professor assured him of performing the operation on April 8.
However, seeking anonymity, an on-duty doctor said the date of operation would be finalised after a board meeting scheduled on Tuesday morning.
