Minor boys fall victim to bomb blast and road accident

An 11-year-old schoolboy sustained serious injuries to his leg in an abandoned crude bomb blast in the capital’s Azimpur area yesterday when he started playing with the bomb, thinking it was a ball.

The victim, Emon Hossain, is a class-V student of Azimpur Adarsha School and lives with his grandfather Ashraf Ali near Moddhya Colony area.

Lalbagh police station Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam said three crude bombs were lying abandoned under a tree in the Moddhya Colony area. Around 12:30pm Emon and his two friends, Nayeem and Tanjil, were playing in the area. At one point, Emon found the crude bombs wrapped in red tapes.

“Emon threw one of the bombs towards a wood apple tree to knock a fruit out of the tree but it fell down and blasted near his left leg. We brought him to the police station and after primary treatment he was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH),” he told the Dhaka Tribune over phone.

Meanwhile, a 10-year-old boy Mamun died in a road accident in Mohakhali in the capital yesterday.

Around 11am some unidentified motor vehicle hit Mamun on the slope of the flyover. A team of army personnel took him to the Combined Military Hospital.

As his condition deteriorated he was referred to DMCH where he died around 4pm at ward no 204, Mamun’s father Arif, a beetle leaf trader by profession, told reporters at DMCH.

Mamun used to live with his parents in Korail Slum in Mohakhali. His mother Chan Banu works at a restaurant.

Arif said a team of army was passing by when the accident took place. They rescued Mamun from the spot.

“A case was filed against the unidentified vehicle,” said Mozammel Haque, DMCH police outpost in-charge.
