Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain has opined that national dialogue placed by “Concerned Citizens” is essential to end the ongoing confrontational politics.
The eminent lawyer added the word “reformist” had been termed bad during the army-backed caretaker government in 2007 and now the word “dialogue” has been treated in the same way.
“Is dialogue a bad word? We need reform in certain areas to resolve confrontational politics peacefully and that is why national dialogue is a must. People is the source of power, but today they are ignored,” he went on.
Dr Kamal made the statement while addressing a sit-in programme titled ‘No more terrorism and violence, establish peace and democracy, and there’s no alternative to national dialogue,” hosted by Nagorik Oikkya at Suharawardy Udyan in the capital yesterday.
In the programme, Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal President ASM Abdur Rob said very bad consequence awaits unless the talks held. “Free and fair election should be held immediately. There is no alternative of it,” Rob continued.
Nagorik Oikkya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna said: “We are against sabotage acts but want peace and that is why there is no alternative to dialogue.”
Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal President Khalequzzaman said AL and BNP have been fighting for power.
Former AL leader Sultan Mohammad Monsur termed the incumbent parliament “Zoo” where autocrat HM Ershad is a lawmaker.
DU law department teacher Ashif Nazrul said: “Dialogue occurred between Israel-Palestine and Japan-United States. Then what happened between Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina that they can not hold talks. Please save us from civil war.”
Gano Forum Presidium Member Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, its General Secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu, CPB General Secretary Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed were present among others.
