A man who sustained burn injuries in a petrol bomb attack in Lakshmipur on Sunday night died at a local hospital yesterday morning, taking the total death toll in blockade violence to 43.
Liton, 30, was burnt while travelling by a CNG-run autorickshaw around 10pm when the attack was made.
In Gazipur, blockaders hurled two petrol bombs at Jamalpur Commuter Express near Sreepur Railway Station around 5:30pm, injuring four passengers – Hossain, 60, Afzal Uddin, 50, Kazim Uddin, 45, and Mofiz Uddin, 60.
Rail communications with Chittagong remained suspended for about 10 hours in the wake of a train derailment caused by removal of rail fastening clips from rail tracks in Mirsharai upazila.
The engine and two bogies of Chittagong-bound Mymensingh Express got off the tracks around 4am as rail fastening clips were removed in Bara Takia area.
At least 10 passengers were injured in the accident and received treatment at a local hospital, said Firoz Iftekhar, divisional transportation officer of Bangladesh Railway (east zone).
Trips of five trains - Subarna Express, Mohanagar Provati, Mohanagar Godhuli, Karnaphuli Express and Sagarika Express - were cancelled following the derailment. A five-member probe committee headed by Firoz was also formed.

In Sylhet, Abdul Batin Faisal, former president of Sylhet Photojournalists' Association, was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College after he was injured in a blast at Chauhatta area around 6:45pm. Witnesses said Shibir activists blasted the bomb.
Two men - Abdul Malek and Md Ali - were injured in a blast at Nawabpur in Dhaka.
Eight crude bombs were exploded on Johnson Road near the court area in Old Dhaka around 12:10pm.
