Teachers and employees non-government schools and colleges formed human chains and held rallies at different parts of the country, to press home their demands yesterday.
The demands include nationalisation of their jobs and inclusion of the salaries other benefits in the newly proposed pay scale for the government employees, and ensuring pensions after their retirement.
In Kurigram, the Kurigram district unit of Teachers Employees Unity Alliance formed a human chain on Kurigram-Chilmari Highway for two hours.
With the alliance’s Kurigram District Unit Convenor Prof Shafqul Islam Bebu in the chair, its Joint Convenor Hasibur Rahman Hasib, former law maker Umar Faruk, Kurigram Press Club’s former general secretary Ahsan Habib Nilu, teachers’ leaders Golam Rasul Raja, Nurunnabi Sarkar, Ruhul Aminul, Safina Begum Sheli, among others spoke on the occasion.
Meanwhile, teachers and employees of non-government school, and colleges formed a human chain on Shaheed Hasan Premesis in Chuadanga Town, to place home the same demands, reports our Chuadanga correspondent.
Bangladesh Teachers’ Association Chuadanga District Unit President Fazlur Rahman, General Secretary Rashidul Islam, Tressurer Mojubul Haq, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Addressing the human chain, the teachers’ leaders said the teachers are called the backbone of the nation. But they are leading an inhumane life due the ignorance of the government.
It is repeatedly told by the government that the country is moving toward prosperity. But its double standard attitude toward the teachers imply that the teachers are being pushed into the darkness.
Our Barguna correspondent reports, officers and employees of Barguna municipality formed a human chain on Barguna Press Club premises around 11:00am, to press home their demands, including nationalisation of their jobs, and ensuring pension and other benefits after their retirement.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the prime minister through the deputy commissioner of Barguna.
