Security to be tightened ahead of Christmas, 31st December

State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan said the government had arranged tight security across the country for celebrations of the Christmas Day and 31st December to avoid any kind of untoward incident.

“Tight security arrangements were made in and around the capital city so that the people can celebrate Christmas and New Year peacefully,” he said while talking to journalists after a meeting at his ministry’s conference room at the secretariat yesterday.

Asaduzzaman said members of law enforcement agencies had been asked to conduct foot patrolling for peaceful celebration of the Christmas Day and 31st December night.

He said additional forces would be deployed in the capital as well as across the country to ensure security for people on December 25 and December 31, respectively.

The inter-ministerial meeting on the security measures has also taken 10 decisions on the occasion of the Christmas Day and 31st December, the state minister said.

State Minister For Social Welfare Pramod Mankin, Inspector General of Police Hasan Mahmood Khandker and other high officials of the law enforcement agencies were present at the meeting.

He said on December 25, police forces would be deployed all night long around the church areas to so that the members of the Christian community would celebrate the Christmas with due fervour.

On the December 31 night, movement along the Baridhara Diplomatic zone would be restricted for non-residents. Additional police force will also be deployed in Banani, Gulshan, Dhanmondi and Baridhara areas, the state minister added.

Asaduzzaman Khan and Pramod Mankin celebrated the Christmas Day in advance by cutting cake after the meeting.
