Diarrhoea turns alarming in Natore, Chapainawabganj

The number of diarrhoea affected patients in Natore has reached 66 with the 16 newly affected people. 

As patients have been blaming stinky water supplied by Natore municipality for the outbreak of the water-related disease, district civil surgeon office has sent water sample to the capital for test early yesterday, said our Natore correspondent.

Dr Abul Kalam Azad, residential medical officer of sadar hospital, said at least 66 patients had been admitted to the hospital in the last 72 hours.

Civil Surgeon Ferdous Nilufar said Sanitary Inspector Bazlul Huda had collected water sample from Borgachha area under Natore municipality around 10am.

She expressed hope that they would get the test result within the 15 days. After getting the report, they would take necessary steps in this regard.

Residential Medical Officer Abul Kalam Azad said most patients were from Borgachha and Station Bazar areas in the municipality. They might have been affected with this disease after drinking water.

Mayor Sheikh Emdadul Haq Al Mamun, however, said there was no chance of the supply water being polluted as it is drawn from underground directly.

Our Chapainawabganj correspondent adds: diarrhoea has taken an alarming turn in Chapainawabganj with infection of several hundreds of people.

According to district civil surgeon office, about 700 hundreds people affected with diarrhoea had been admitted to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital in last month.

The sources said about 40 to 50 patients were coming to the hospital everyday and the number is increasing day by day.

Sadar hospital authority said the staff and physicians of the hospital were struggling to give medicine and accommodation facilities to the huge people with their limited supports.

Shafiqul Islam, residential medical officer of the hospital, told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday that 36 diarrhea patients had admitted to the hospital from Saturday morning to Sunday evening.

Pediatric doctor of the hospital Dr Abul Kashem said on the advent of winter people especially children are affected with cold-related and diarrhoea.
