Angelina Jolie to quit acting

Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie, who has already made her debut as a director, plans to give up acting entirely as she “found her true calling as a director.”

In an interview to DuJour, a New York based luxury lifestyle magazine, the actress said as she prepared to deliver Unbroken, her largest directorial effort yet, the star was set to “absolutely” quit acting for good.

Replying to queries, she said: “I’ve never been comfortable as an actor; I’ve never loved being in front of the camera. I didn’t ever think I could direct, but I hope I’m able to have a career at it because I’m much happier.”

But before that happens, Jolie is multitasking as a writer, actor and director for period love story ‘By the Sea’, starring husband Brad Pitt. The movie is about a 1970s American couple and their complicated marriage during a trip to France.

Regarding the movie with husband Brad Pitt, Jolie said: “Compared to Unbroken, this film is a walk in the park. The tricky thing is directing myself and directing Brad. It’s hard, dramatic material, and we’re balancing.”

“It’s a heavy film, and it’s not easy for us. But even as you struggle through it, you’re in the trenches together and you don’t expect it to be easy. We’re challenging each other and that’s a really good thing.”

On Unbroken and her sons, she said: “In the back of my mind, I wanted to make a film that would help my boys become better men. They know Louie’s story, so I’m able to say to them that it’s not bad to be full of fire—it’s what you choose to do with that fire.”

She was named Hollywood's highest-paid actress by Forbes in 2009, 2011, and 2013.

Jolie made her screen debut as a child alongside her father, Jon Voight, in Lookin' to Get Out (1982). Her film career began in earnest a decade later with the low-budget production of Cyborg 2 (1993).

Her first leading role in a major film was in the cyber-thriller Hackers (1995).

Jolie achieved wide fame after her portrayal of the video game heroine Lara Croft in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001). Her biggest commercial success was the fantasy film Maleficent (2014).

Jolie made her directorial debut with the 2007 documentary, A Place in Time, followed by the wartime drama, In the Land of Blood and Honey (2011).
