A Bangladeshi teenager was returned to the country yesterday who remained at a safe home inside India for last one year and four months.
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed over the boy Omar Faruq, 16, to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials through holding a flag meeting at the Dorshona checkpost of Damurhuda upazila under Chuadanga district yesterday.
Dorshona BGB camp commander Khorshed Alam, who was present at the meeting on behalf of BGB, said last year on July 31, Omar had been caught from near pillar no 61 in Shyamkur border while trying to enter India illegally.
The BSF officials of Fatehpur camp in India caught him and later on handed over to the Krishnanagar police station.
Later, a court has ordered to send him to the Krishannagar Safe Home for being a minor.
Omar had left his home after having a quarrel with his parents.
He is the son of Shamsuddin Ahmed hailing from Shyamkur village in Maheshapur upazila under Jhenaidah district, said the camp commander.
Yesterday at aboput 1pm, members of the respective border guard forces held the meeting with AC Dipok Thappa from the Indian side.
Omar was handed over to the Damurhuda police station. BGB sources said he would be sent to his family as soon as possible.
