The Labour Ministry has decided to reach out to the families of unidentified victims of Rana Plaza collapse in order to have them compensated.
“We will send letters next week to the deputy commissioners and intelligence agencies to identify the victims, who could not be identified through DNA test,” Joint Secretary of the ministry Md Faizur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune at his office last week.
Their families will be included in the compensation programme, he added.
On April 24 last year, the eight-storey building in Savar crumbled, leaving over 1,100 people dead and over 2,000 injured. The building housed five RMG factories. According to the Labour Ministry, 291 unidentified victims were buried at Jurain graveyard after collecting DNA samples.
The government identified 206 victims by DNA tests but some 85 could not be identified despite the test.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association has a list of around 150 victims whose family have claimed that they are still missing. L
