State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said the government is setting up watch towers to ensure safety and proper vehicular movement on the highways during the festivals.
He made the statement while talking to the journalists at his office in the secretariat on Tuesday afternoon.
The minister said: “Night vision cameras and binoculars will be kept in the watch towers so that the law enforcers can monitor the activities on the highways during Eid and Puja and take steps if they sense untoward situations.”
He said: “Close circuit cameras will be set up in the 14 entry and exist points of Dhaka to ensure security during Eid and Puja.”
“The steps will be taken keeping in mind the security of Dhaka city as it will be empty during the festivals. The cameras will start functioning within a day or two,” he said.
“The cameras are being set up to keep a watch on whoever enters or exists the capital,” Kamal added.
The minister also urged the owners of buildings, markets and organisations to set up CC cameras as a part of their own security measures.
He said: “Incidents like robbery can be avoided by setting up CC cameras in buildings, markets and organisations. Even if such incidents take place, the law enforcers will be able to catch the culprits with the help of the cameras.”
Kamal said: “Rapid Action Battalion, police and Ansar will ensure the security across the country during this period. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have also been kept on alert regarding the matter.”
The minister said BGB has been directed to stop the smuggling of animal skin in the country.
