The taxpayers are allowed one more month for submitting their income tax returns till November 2, following demands from various trade bodies and individuals.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extend the deadline as there will be public holidays for the Eid-ul-Azha and the Durga Puja
festivals during the existing period of tax return, said a NBR statement issued yesterday.
The taxpayers have requested the board to extend the deadline as taxpayers faces difficulties to collect necessary documents related to income tax return filing due to the upcoming holidays, it said.
Besides, the board is also considering the matter relating to the hajj pilgrims, who will not be present in the country during this period.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith has already singed the proposal for extending the deadline for tax return, so the board is extending the deadline.
Usually, a taxpayer can easily gets a three-month extension for filing returns only if he/she applies.
According to the income tax ordinance, the NBR can fine Tk1,000 at a time and Tk50 for each day if any TIN holder failed to submit the returns within the deadline.
