The spirit, beauty of womanhood and also the strength in every woman have been depicted by 11 female artists at a group art exhibition at Galley 21 in Dhanmondi in the capital.
The exhibition titled 'Shreyoshi' showcases 50 paintings by noted and promising artists including Farida Zaman, Kanak Chapa Chakma, Fareha Zeba, Farzana Islam Milky, Kuhu, Naima Haque, Rebeka Sultana, Shulekha Choudhury, Mini Karim, Samina Nafies and Shameem Subarna.
Women are beautiful; they are beautiful in joviality, in grief, in leisure or in work; they are beautiful as mothers, as sisters, as friends or as the loved ones. The artists have tried to capture a glimpse of the magnificent facades of the beauty of womanhood through their artistic creativity and dexterity of paints and brushes on canvases. They have drawn images of female figures with an array of vivid colors that would dazzle your eyes. Besides, the artists have also used a range of mediums including acrylic and oil on canvas, textile paint on fabric, or even brass installations, demonstrating their comfort in coping with any means when it come to create art.
Kanak Chapa Chakma, in her acrylic painting titled Happiness in the Green, has portrayed back side two women figures intimately talking to each other while a basket generally used in tea gardens situated right beside one of the women confirm them as tea labors. However, it is not their identity you would be interested in when you will come across the painting; rather you would be bound to be curious about what the women are discussing. Are they talking about their families? Or are they talking about how exhausted they are with their laborious work? Or are they just having light discussions about their loved ones? The painting will leave you to asking many such questions which are never to be answered.
Rebeka Sultana has portrayed a beautiful young woman wearing a bright yellow dress in backdrop of numerous lotus flowers in her painting titled Unknown Love-60. The girl is also wearing a large blue coloured flower in her hair, a long necklace and a number of bangles in her wrist. Though not clarified by the artist, still, by looking at the painting, you would get an impression that the beautiful woman is deeply in love and waiting for her beloved’s homecoming.
Began on September 12, the exhibition will remain open from till October 4.
