A week-long retrospective of films directed by influential Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa will be held at the main auditorium of National Museum, starting from September 19. The festival, jointly hosted by the International Academy of Film and Media (IAFM), Japan Foundation, Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh and the National Museum, will pay tribute to Kurosawa’s 16th death anniversary.
The festival, apart from screening movies, will also feature a three-day workshop dedicated to the director’s life and works, from September 20 to 22. Kurosawa exponent Sanjoy Ghosh from India will conduct the workshop.
It has been learned that thirteen Kurosawa films including his most celebrated “Yojimbo,” “Rashomon,” “Seven Samurai” and “Ikiru” will be screened with English subtitle, in three sessions each day — 11:00am, 3:00pm and 6:00pm. The screening is open to all.
Arguably the most celebrated filmmaker of all time in Japan, Akira Kurosawa had a career spanning from the Second World War to the early nineties.
