AG: No bar to Khaleda's graft trial

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam has said there is no bar for the trial of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia as the Appellate Division has dismissed her appeals in two corruption cases.

He made the statement while talking to the reporters at his office in the Supreme Court after the court gave its order regarding Khaleda's plea on Sunday morning.

He said: “There is no bar for running Khaleda's trail.”

Talking about Khaleda's two other petitions, he said: “There is no stay appeal in the two other petitions filed by Khaleda Zia.”

Answering to a query about the review petition, the attorney general said: “Usually stay order is not given in the review petition.”

In his case submission, Mahbubey Alam mentioned that the BNP chairperson is trying to hinder the trial process by filing petitions.

Earlier in the day, a five-member Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Mozammel Hossain dismissed Khaleda's appeal.

The leave-to-appeal petition was filed against the High Court order that rejected Khaleda's petition challenging the legality of the appointment of a judge conducting two corruption cases.
