PM: Beware of BNP-Jamaat’s brutality

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the countrymen to remain aware of the brutality of the BNP and its' political ally Jamaat-e-Islami.

She also urged the people to raise their voice against the brutality of the BNP and its' political ally Jamaat-e-Islami across the country for more than two years since February 2013 to foil the trial of the war criminals and January 5, 2014 general elections.

The premier made the call while addressing a cover unveiling ceremony of a picture book titled “Blood-Stained Bangladesh” at Osmani Auditorium in the capital on Saturday afternoon.

The book contains the photographs of the series of incidents of violence that took place during the BNP-Jamaat's countrywide demonstrations in 2013, demanding the restoration of a caretaker government system.

The Awami League has published the book.

She said the perpetrators of barbaric activities do not believe in any definition of politics nor in the constitution, independence or democracy at all.

"It is my only request to the countrymen that such a situation is not repeated in the country and no political party should make fun of the dead bodies of the toiling masses and sending the lives of people to darkness," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said: "It was the political decision of the BNP to boycott the election. It's their freedom. But how could they accept resorting to complete vandalism, rampant killing of the common people, police, BGB and army personnel and put people on fire to foil the election."

Sheikh Hasina said her government has tried its best to stand beside the affected families and in the future her government would continue to do so.

"We cannot return the people who lost their lives and suffered losses due to the violence. But we can try to shun the repetition of the violence and allow relief to the injured people and relatives of the deceased," she said.

Family members of some victims of the BNP-Jamaat atrocities and some of the injured persons were present on the occasion.

The prime minister talked to them and inquired about their well-being.
