'How low does Narayanganj fall!'

Large banners and billboards, containing derogatory remarks, have been placed again near Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road, where the garbage were pilling up on both-sides of the street.

The banners and billboards, which were placed on Thursday night, have reportedly been containing derogatory elements and offensive remarks on the city corporation Mayor Dr Salina Hayat Ivy.

According to locals, one of the billboards, contained the remarks: “Ivy, the locals want to be freed from your stink.” However, Bangla word “durgandho,” which means stink, has been misspelled twice.

Another billboard contained: "Stinking Mrs Sufian, this garbage has reflected your personality."

Some 12 banners and billboards containing such “derogatory” remarks on Ivy have been placed in different points of the link road, said locals.

The locals are considering it as a matter of “nuisance.” Wishing anonymity, many of them told the Bangla Tribune, a sister concern of the Dhaka Tribune, that such “negative and derogatory” campaign against “the popular mayor” would do nothing but cast negative effect on the pride of the citizens.

One of the locals told the Bangla Tribune over phone: “How low does our pride and goodwill go?”

“We have established a good image by playing a vital role in expanding education, business and progressiveness. But, now...........”

Another citizen said: “The common people of the area fell victim of the conflict between two powerful politician.”

The locals claimed that this type of “offensive” billboards had been seen in the city earlier.

The Bangla Tribune tried to contact Ivy and her opponents fro several times, but none could be reached for their comment over the issue.
