A short film festival titled “Looking at the Big Sky 14” will be inaugurated at 6pm today at the Goethe Institut and will continue for seven days. The videos have been produced by young students from German Art School and are being showcased worldwide in Goethe-Institut.
At the opening ceremony, Ishtiaque Zico, lecturer of Pathshala South Asian Media Institute will talk about the Bangladeshi short film scene. During the presentation he will also discuss the 14 videos of “Looking at the Big Sky” and compare them to short films made in Bangladesh and his overall impression of this project.
14 films of two to 14 minutes duration will be screened everyday from 2 – 6pm. Films to be screened tomorrow includes “Hohenpeissenberg” (2011) by Fabian Driehorst/Frédéric Schuld, “Birkensee/Birch Lake” (2011) by Stefan Ewald, “Untitled” (2012) by Hannah Hummel, “Weirdo’s Brain” (2012) by Bianca Kennedy, “Und Zigaretten/And Cigarettes” (2011) by Alwin Lay, “John’s Desire” (2011) by Henning Frederik Malz, “An vertrauten Orten/Familiar Places” (2012) by Kevin Pawel Matweew and many others.
The theme of the videos, sky, evokes a variety of different associations: The faraway horizon stands as a symbol for vastness of thoughts, freedom, openness, and unlimited possibilities, all that is connected with the blue sky or a starlit night.
