A company commander-level flag meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) has been held in Mujibnagar border under the Meherpur district over the killing of a Bangladeshi cattle trader on Saturday.
Nayek Shafiqul Islam, acting company commander of BGB Mujibnagar Camp, represented Bangladesh and Inspector Ram Abdar, company commander of BSF 119 battalion, was present on behalf of India.
The acting commander of BGB said: “We protested the firing by BSF in Meherpur border area which was unlawful according to international law and also asked for accountability in the killing of a Bangladeshi cattle trader on Friday.”
Abdul Khalek, a Bangladeshi cattle trader was shot dead by the members of Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) on Mujibnagar border in Meherpur district on Friday night.
The BSF troops of Sutia camp opened fire on Khaleak near main pillar no 107 while he was trying to bring cattle into Bangladesh from the Indian territory around 11:30pm, leaving him dead on the spot, BGB Merpur officials told the Dhaka Tribune.
