‘I am a victim of targeted criticism’

A brilliant presenter and orator, Masuma Rahman Nabila has become a familiar face on television.

With her serene smile and easygoing nature, the model/presenter has the ability to keep the audience hooked with her interesting commentaries. About her presentation skills, she said: “I love anchoring and thus talking comes naturally to me.” Dhaka Tribune caught up with the newcomer to talk about her career and more.

How did you start your journey in the entertainment industry?

I stepped into the media through a school magazine show on Banglavision called “Ebong Class er Baire” in 2006. Afterwards, I became the anchor of internationally celebrated events like ICC World Cup and T20 World Cup alongside other television programmes. I always tried to do quality work that would be good for my profile as a presenter.

Celebrities have always been victim of gossips, what rumours did you hear about yourself?

Well, once there was a show which was jointly aired by Banglavision and Radio Today. Nirob and I anchored the show. One day, Nirob was alone and an audience member asked him why I was not present. Nirob jokingly answered that I was getting married. The audience member took his words literally and I had to explain myself over and over again for quite some time.

There are many speculations about your relationship status, would you mind setting the record straight?

I would say, most of what you have probably heard are hearsays. In many cases false news was circulated against me. For their own interest, a few atrocious people did this. I am a victim of targeted criticism and none of these are true. I am single at present and I am enjoying it.

Why do you enjoy being single? Is there any advantage?

I have had a terrible experience when it comes to relationships. It is always very painful when you are deceived by a loved one and that is not acceptable to me. Right now I want to concentrate on work and for that, being single is preferred.

How was your Eid?

In a single word, it was fantastic. For the last four years I had to work continuously and I even had to work on Eid day. This time it was different. I got the opportunity to spend time with family and friends.
