Morshed to bring Humayun Ahmed’s novella on big screen

Eminent filmmaker Morshedul Islam is making a film based on iconic author Humayun Ahmed’s novella “Anil Bagchir Ekdin.”

The director who previously made two films -  “Durotto” (2004) and “Priyotomeshu” (2009) – both adaptations of Humayun Ahmed’s work said to the Dhaka Tribune: “We tried to keep the essence of the original story but had to make a few changes to meet the demands of the big screen.”

“The story communicates humanitarian appeal and communal harmony which inspired me to bring it to the big screen,” he added.

Jyotika Jyoti, who acted in Humayun Ahmed’s “Nondito Naroke” earlier, played the role of Anil Bagchi’s sister Atoshi in the movie, while Arechh Syed donned the title role. Toufik Emon, Gazi Rakayet, Farhana Mithu will also be seen in the film. About working in the movie, Jyotika said: “I am thrilled as once again I got the chance to play a character from one of Humayun Ahmed’s story. It is an honour just to be selected.

“I read the novella during my childhood and interestingly I got the book as first prize in an essay competition. I never thought that one day I will get the opportunity to portray the role of Anil Bagchir’s sister Atoshi. I think working in the film will be a turning point of my acting career.”

The story follows Anil, who stays in Dhaka. Upon hearing the news of his father’s death, he heads for his hometown during Liberation War. On the way, he continues to think about the loving memories of his father and sister Atoshi.

“Anil Bagchir Ekdin” features a number of original tracks alongside Tagore songs. Sunny Jubayer is the music director. The shooting of the film started on May 23 this year.
