The war crimes tribunal yesterday asked the defence counsel of Syed Mohammad Qaisar to conclude the cross-examination of the investigation officer of the case by today.
ASP Monowara Begum, 59, was questioned for the third session yesterday. The defence counsel, Abdus Sobhan Tarafder, started questioning her about how and when she had recorded depositions of the witnesses. It irked the tribunal.
The three-member tribunal 2 then said: “These questions have no importance and relevance with the case.” It then cautioned Tarafder and fixed today for concluding the cross-examination.
During the proceedings, the tribunal reminded the defence counsel several times to conclude the session.
Meanwhile, the defence counsel for accused Maulana Abdus Subhan ended cross examining the prosecution’s 21st witness after two days’ session. The counsel argued that the witnesses had given false deposition and claimed that the accused Jamaat-e-Islami leader had not been present at the places of incident.
Later both the prosecution and the defence pleaded for adjournment in the case. Surprised, the tribunal 2 asked: “What will we do until that day?” tribunal Chairman Justice Obaidul Hassan then set August 6 for further proceedings in the case.
