The police have found the allegations against the Northern University lecturer, who was arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks on Bangabandhu, president and the prime minister, not true.
They submitted the final investigation report with a Khulna court on July 6.
In the report, the investigation officer of the case also the Officer-in-Charge of Sonadanga police station, Maruf Ahmed, said: “During the investigation, we did not find any specific prove against the teacher, Rajib Hasnat Shakil. We find the allegations baseless and unauthentic.”
“We have made the final report on the basis of a written statement of the expelled student, Nayeem, where he said he was repentant for bringing such allegation against the lecturer.”
He further said: “After receiving the copy of the statement, we tried to contact Nayeem several times. But he was not available over phone. Later, we recommended to acquit the teacher from the charges.”
Earlier on July 3, the lecturer was arrested from Shibbari area on the university campus in Khulna.
The law department teacher was arrested under special provision.
Assistant Commissioner of Sonadanga Zone police Md Nasir Uddin Zobayer said the police have filed a case against the law teacher of the university under special provision.
Rajib allegedly made derogatory comments on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during delivering lecture in his class in January.
A student, Md Nayeem, opposed his remarks and protested the issue. Later, the university authority expelled him following the protest.
Nayeem called a press conference in Khulna press club on June 29. The daily Janakhantha published the report on June 30.
On the basis of the media report, Advocate Abdul Malek alias Moshiur Malek, president of Bangabandhu Foundation, filed a defamation case against Rajib and Northern University Khulna Campus In-charge, Dr Anwarul Karim.
The police also took Dr Anwarul Karim to Sonadanga police station. Later, he was released after primary interrogation, said Nasir Uddin.
