Vocational job fair attracts huge crowd

A day-long job fair for the vocational and technical graduates has brought good luck to some of the unemployed youths, who have long been dreaming a job.

Some graduates got their jobs after submitting their CVs and facing viva at the fair held yesterday at the auditorium of the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh, in the capital.

Hasanuzzaman, a diploma graduate, said one company assured him of giving a job shortly.

Organisers claimed that some 25 graduates could secure their respective jobs by 1:30pm yesterday and the number would be 600 at the end of the day.

Around 50 stalls took part at the fair, which was organised by the World Bank-funded Skills and Training Enhancement Project.

Stall officials noted that they got positive response from the job seekers.

Job seekers were seen waiting in long queues to submit their CVs to various recruiting companies at the fair.

“We’ve received over 200 CVs from the students, who are looking for jobs,’’ Habibur Rahman from Bhuiyan Institute of Technology told the Dhaka Tribune.

Saifuzzaman from Dutch Bangla Packaging Industry said: We will recruit 275 workers from this job fair.

We are going to arrange the job fair every year, project director Golam Mohammad Zahirul Alam told the Dhaka Tribune.

“We want to bridge the gap between the companies and institutions, so both the organisations can meet their respective demands,” he said.

He noted that because of lack of communication between institutions and companies, many vocational graduates are being deprived of getting their due jobs and he also hoped that such fair would help them to secure their jobs.

Inaugurating the fair, education minister Nurul Islam Nahid said the government was working hard to improve the vocational education in the country.

“The government want to increase the number of the vocational and technical students up to 20% of the total students by 2020 and 30% by 2030,’’ the minister added.
