Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday proposed an allocation of Tk23,136 crore in communications and infrastructure in the upcoming budget.
The government would construct a tunnel underneath the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong. Besides, conversion of nationally important highways into four lanes would be carried out gradually.
“We have taken proper initiatives to implement the MRT Line 6 project from Uttara to Motijheel under the supervision of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority,”Muhith said, adding that the Metro Rail Act, 2014 had been sent to the cabinet for approval.
He mentioned that a contract had been signed with the investment partner to construct the 46.73 kilometre-long Dhaka elevated express way from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Kutubkhali of Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
Besides, the pre-feasibility study for 42 kilometre-long Dhaka-Ashulia elevated express way from the airport to Chandra under the Public-Private Partnership had been completed, he added.
