Naomi Watts joins Divergent sequels

The “Diana” star has joined the cast of the sequel “Insurgent” as Evelyn, leader of the Factionless, a role she will reprise in the other two films in Veronica Roth’s futuristic franchise, said The Hollywood Reporter.

She is expected to start shooting her scenes shortly for the second instalment, which began filming in Atlanta last week.

Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet and Ansel Elgort have reprised their roles from the first film, with Octavia Spencer a new addition to the cast. Robert Schwentke is directing “Insurgent” from a screenplay written by Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman.

Naomi, last seen as Diana in Oliver Hirschbiegel’s drama, will next star in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s comedy “Birdman,” comedy “St Vincent” opposite Chris O’Dowd and Melissa McCarthy, and Noah Baumbach’s drama “While We’re Young.”
