BGB-BGP flag meeting underway in Myanmar

A sector commander-level flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) is underway at Maungdaw in Myanmar on Thursday morning.

The BGB delegation entered Myanmar through Teknaf Land Port at 8:30am and the meeting started at 11am local time, said Cox's Bazar-17 BGB commander Khandakar Saiful Isalm.

Khandakar Saiful Isalm said: “Bangladesh will discuss about five agenda with Myanmar.”

BGB Cox's Bazar Sector Commander Col Khandakar Farid Hasan is leading a 23 member Bangladesh delegation.

Bandarban sector commander Saifur Islam, BGB 17 battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Saiful Islam, 31 battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Shafikur Rahman, 50 battalion commander Kaikobad and 42 battalion acting-commander Major Najmus Sadat are also present, among others, in the meeting.

On May 28, BGB personnel Mizanur Rahman was killed allegedly by Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) at Naikhongchhari in Bandarban.

Mizanur Rahman, a naik of the Border Guard Bangladesh, went missing when a patrolling team of the 31 BGB battalion was shot at, allegedly by the Myanmar frontier guards, near the border pillar number 52 at Paanchhari in Dochhari union. 

Later, Myanmar’s Border Guard Police handed over Mizan's body to the Border Guard Bangladesh.
