Indefinite strike begins at Osmani Medical College

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal unit of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College has begun an indefinite strike from Thursday morning protesting the killing of Tauhidul Islam, a fourth year student of MBBS 49th batch and JCD leader.

The strike has started from 8am, said Aslamul Rudra, president of Chhatra Dal unit of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College.

Dr Tanmoy Bhattacharia, deputy director of the medical college, said: “The first namaz-e-janaza of Touhid was held on the college premises around 10am.”

His second janaza will be held at 11:15, said Aslamul Rudra.

MAG Osmani Medical College Director Brigadier General Md Mizanur Rahman and its Principal Dr Morshed Ahmed Chowdhury were present at the janaza, among others, he said.

“Touhid's family members have reached Sylhet to receive his body. They will take the body to their home district at Gopalpur village in Shariatpur,” Sylhet Metropolitan Police Assistant Deputy Commissioner and Media Wing Chief Rahmat Ullah said.

Tauhidul Islam, a fourth year student of MBBS 49th batch and also a JDC leader, was beaten to death by unidentified miscreants on Wednesday evening.

Later, Tauhidul succumbed to his injuries around 8pm, Dr Abdus Salam, assistant director of the hospital, endorsed the information in a press meet.

However, JCD leader Rudra claimed that BCL activists attacked Tauhid and beat him black and blue in Room No 1003 of Abu Sina Hall of the medical college.
