Dhaka-Ctg highway to be finished by year-end

Construction of the four-lane Dhaka-Chittagong highway will be complete by the end of the year, while construction of the four-lane Dhaka-Mymensingh highway will be finished by March next year, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader told the parliament.

“Carpeting work on 66km of the 190km in the Dhaka-Chittagong highway has already been completed. Also, 98% of the highway’s main work has been finished,” he told parliament during the scheduled question-answer session for the ministers.

“I hope the four-lane project will be finished by the end of this year,” he said, adding that the government may seek two more months, at best, if necessary. The minister said the four-lane project in the Dhaka-Chittagong highway was delayed by at least six mosques obstructing the highway’s alignment.

“You know it is very difficult to move the mosques. We had to meet with the locals 30 times to shift the mosques to other places,” he said.

On the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, the minister said the project was in progress. “Hopefully, the project will be finished by March next year,” he said.
