Two people have died after inhaling toxic gas of a newly built septic tank in Ramu upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased are Rahima Begum, 30, wife of late Abdus Shukkur and Salamat Ullah, 30, son of late Seher Mia, of the area.
Officer-in-Charge of Ramu police station Saikul Ahmed endorsed the information to the Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “Rahima became unconscious when she went inside to figure out leaks in a newly built septic tank at Azimuddin Shikdar para area of Dakshin Mithekhali union under the upazila.”
Salamat fell sick while trying to rescue Rahima, he added.
Later, locals took them to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the duty doctor declared them dead, the OC said.
