An alleged member of Didar Bahini has been shot dead at Buiyahut area in Lakshmipur early Tuesday.
The deceased is Ismail Hossain Khokon, 38, son of late Ali Ahmad of Titarkandi village and second-in-command of Didar Bahini.
Lakshmipur sadar police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Zillur Rahman said he was patrolling Kathalia area with his force when he heard the sound of gunshots around 11pm.
The SI said when they had rushed to the spot the law enforcers found Khokon with bullet wounds in his legs.
He said: “We admitted him to sadar hospital where Khokon succumbed to his injuries around 1:15am.”
However, the SI could not say anything regarding who had shot Khokon.
Faruk Hossain, a local of the area, said: “The in-charge of Daserhut police station Sub-Inspector Kamal and Assistant Sub-Inspector Sarwar detained Khokon and Sabuj Hossain while they were having a chit-chat with his friends at Buiyahut Bazar area around 8pm.”
“Khokon could not be found after that,” he said.
Detainee Sabuj said: “We were detained together. Police took Khokon in a microbus while they brought me to Lakshmipur police station.”
“I don't know where they took Khokon,” he said.
Regarding the matter, SI Kamal said: “We have arrested Sabuj. He is accused of robbery.”
He claimed that he did not to know anything about Khokon.
