Five killed in road accidents

Five people, including a child, were killed in separate road accidents in Tangail Sadar upazila, Ghatail upazila, Madhupur upazila and Basail upazila yesterday.

Police confirmed the identities of four of the victims, Rafiqul Islam, 35, Kuddus Ali, 40, Mozibur Rahman, 45, and Sami, 10.

The fifth victim was an unidentified 22-year-old woman.

Anwar Hossain, sub-inspector of Tangail Model police station, said: “Rafiq was killed around noon on the Dhaka- Tangail highway near Biswas Betka area. He was run over by a bus when he fell down from his motorcycle after colliding with a battery-run auto-rickshaw.”

Kuddus was hit by a bus in Porabai area under Ghatail upazila around 10:15am, and died instantly, said Sub-Inspector Mizan of Ghatail police station.

Mozib, an auto-rickshaw driver, was killed when a speeding truck hit his vehicle in Madhupur Thana Mor area around 11am, leaving him injured. He later died on his way to Madhupur Upazila Health Complex, said Mozibor Rahman, OC of Madhupur police station.

Meanwhile, the unidentified woman and Sami were when a Sirajganj-bound bus fell into a ditch beside the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Patkhaguri area around 4pm. Sami died on the spot, and the woman, along with 19 others, were injured. They were taken to Tangail General Hospital, where she died at 5:15pm.
